XTRONS IAH84CMPL is an 8″ Android head unit for the Porsche 911 (997), Cayman (987) and Boxster (987). It replaces the factory display with wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and 4G, and a fibre optic decoder comes in the box.
CarPlay connects without a cable, so your iPhone can stay in your pocket. Say "Hey Siri" to ask for directions, send a message or pick a song while your hands stay on the wheel.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect wirelessly as well. Google Maps, music apps and calls appear on the 8″ screen, and "Hey Google" starts Google Assistant.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 8-inch IPS screen has a wide viewing angle and a light, smooth touch. The XTRONS UI has changeable themes and simple icons that are easy to read on the move.
Insert a Micro-SIM card and the unit has its own 4G connection for online maps and streaming. A 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the unit connect to your phone's hotspot or a home network for app downloads and updates.
The DSP chip lets you adjust the sound to your taste, so the music suits the car's speakers and the way you like to listen.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
Add a DAB+ tuner such as USBDAB01, USBDAB02, USBDAB04, ACUSBDAB05T or ACUSBDAB06 for digital radio with strong signals.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit. It's useful for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto, best used when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Instant camera mode shows the reversing picture as soon as you select reverse. It works with AHD 720P/1080P cameras, which are optional.
If your car already has an original reversing camera, you'll need the ICE/ACS/FZMRM01 adapter cable to keep it working.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
Optimised CANbus decoding keeps original features working after the upgrade. If your steering wheel has no buttons, the SWC02 button panel adds steering wheel control.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
An OBD scanner such as OBD01S, OBD02, OBD03 or OBD04 reads trouble codes from your car in real time and shows them on the screen.
Plug an OBD2 adapter into the car's diagnostic port and the head unit can show live engine data, such as coolant temperature, and read fault codes. It reads the standard engine codes, not everything a dealer's diagnostic equipment can reach.
TPMS07 or TPMS08 sensors show tyre pressures on the head unit in real time.
The head unit shows each tyre's pressure and warns you when one drops. It needs a TPMS kit: a receiver and a sensor for each wheel. Cap sensors screw on in minutes, while internal sensors are fitted by a tyre shop.
An Octa-core chip built on a 12nm process runs the latest Android OS with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB storage. Apps open quickly, and there's room for offline maps and music.

The unit is a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display, with two ISO wiring harnesses, a CANbus box and a fibre optic decoder supplied.
