A 12.3 inch Android 14 screen for the BMW X3 F25 (2011-2013) with the CIC system. It keeps the CD player, radio and iDrive, and adds wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G and apps on a fully laminated 2K IPS touch screen.
The unit works with the X3's original CIC system, so you still have the CD player, radio and iDrive. Android, CarPlay and Android Auto are added on top, on a screen that fits the original dashboard.
Sound from the Android side reaches the car's speakers through the AUX input, so AUX needs to be enabled. If your car has no AUX input, or it doesn't work, you'll need an FM transmitter (XTRONS CA/ITR/FM02 is compatible).
CarPlay is built in and wireless, so your iPhone connects without a cable and shows maps, calls and music on the 12.3 inch screen.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones get full-featured Android Auto, putting Google Maps, messages and music on the wide screen with large, easy targets while you drive.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The QHD 2K IPS panel runs at 2400 x 900 and is fully laminated, giving rich, accurate colour. A G+G touch screen makes it quick to use.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 octa-core processor with a Kryo 260 CPU reaches up to 2.0GHz. With dual channel 6GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB UFS ROM, there's room for plenty of apps and smooth switching between them.
It runs Android 14, with apps for navigation, music and video.
Built-in 4G LTE with global network compatibility gives you music streaming and live GPS navigation without tethering a phone. You can also share the internet connection with your passengers.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz lets you browse, stream and play games online through a hotspot or your home network.
Digital radio is available with an external DAB+ tuner, such as the XTRONS USBDAB01, USBDAB02, USBDAB04, ACUSBDAB05T or ACUSBDAB06.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The unit works with XTRONS reversing cameras, DVR dash cams, OBD2 scanners and TPMS kits. A reversing camera shows the view behind on the screen, and a TPMS shows tyre pressures in real time.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
