A 12.3 inch 2K Android 14 screen for the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class C218 and W218 (2014-2017) with COMAND APS NTG 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2. You can switch between Android and the original COMAND system, so the factory controls, camera and parking sensors stay while you gain wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G.
This screen is for the Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class C218 and W218 (2014-2017) with the COMAND APS NTG5.0/5.1/5.2 system. You'll recognise it by a 4-pin LVDS port or the New Telematic Generation 5.0/5.1/5.2 interface. For NTG4.0 cars, choose the XTRONS QBMH2440M12CLS; for NTG4.5 or NTG4.7, the QBMH2445M12CLS.
You can swap between the Android 14 interface and the original COMAND system whenever you like. COMAND control, the factory camera and parking sensors carry on as before, and the CANbus connection shows speed and fuel level information.
Your iPhone connects to CarPlay without a cable, so maps, music, calls and messages come up on the wide screen while the phone stays in your pocket. Siri takes requests by voice.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect wirelessly too. Google Maps and music apps appear in a layout made for driving, and Google Assistant handles destinations and messages by voice.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 12.3 inch IPS display has a 2400×900 resolution with 8-bit colour depth. Nano-texture glass with an anti-reflective coating cuts glare, so the map stays readable with the sun on it.
The screen is fully laminated and touch-sensitive, and it handles 2K video and split-screen navigation.
The wide screen can show navigation alongside another app, so you can keep the route on view while choosing music.
A 4G LTE module gives the unit its own data connection with a SIM card, for streaming and live navigation without tethering to your phone. A 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) connects the screen to a hotspot or home network for app downloads and updates.
Bluetooth 5.1 connects your phone for audio streaming and calls.
The original steering wheel controls keep working through the CANbus integration, including volume, track skip and COMAND navigation. No reprogramming is needed.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
The unit supports an external DAB tuner, sold separately, for digital radio stations.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring puts your phone's display on the 12.3 inch screen for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto. It's best used when parked or by a passenger.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
A dash cam (DVR) can be added to record the road ahead and view the footage on the screen. It's sold separately.
Recordings from a dash cam show on the car screen, live or played back. It needs a USB dash cam made for Android head units; an ordinary dash cam with its own screen won't connect this way. Mount the camera behind the mirror, clear of your view.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 (Kryo 260, 8-core, 2.0GHz) with 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 ROM runs Android 14. Several apps can run together without stutter, and the unit is rated for -30°C to +80°C.
