The XTRONS IAH84M209SL is an 8 inch Android 14 head unit that replaces the factory radio or COMAND in the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class A209 and C209. It adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, 4G and an AKM DSP, while a CANbus decoder and fibre optic decoder keep the steering wheel controls and factory audio system working.
CarPlay starts automatically when you get in, with no cable to plug in. Maps, Spotify, messages and calls appear on the 8 inch screen.
Your iPhone can stay in your pocket, which suits a car where there's little space for a phone holder.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto also connects wirelessly as you get in. Google Maps and your music apps run on the head unit and are controlled from the touchscreen.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
A fibre optic decoder is included to keep the CLK's factory audio system, so the original speakers and amplifier carry on working.
The pre-flashed CANbus decoder keeps the factory backup camera (if fitted), door chimes and light control talking to the car.
The 8 inch G+G IPS panel runs at 1280×720 with 178° viewing angles. An anti-glare coating keeps it readable in direct sunlight, which helps with the roof down in an A209 Cabriolet.
The AKM AK7758 DSP handles 8-channel audio and applies time-alignment correction. It delays the nearer speakers slightly so the sound reaches the driver at the same moment, centring the music on your seat.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
The built-in TDA7851 amplifier chip (4×48W) drives the speakers with enough power for clean sound at motorway speeds.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
A 12nm octa-core Cortex-A75 processor (2.2GHz) runs Android 14 with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB of eMMC storage. It also plays 2K video with hardware H.265 decoding.
The unit is rated for -30°C to +80°C.
Insert a micro-SIM card and the unit has its own 4G LTE connection, so maps and streaming work without your phone. A 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) carries wireless CarPlay and Android Auto and lets the unit download updates over the air.
Bluetooth 5.0 connects your phone for hands-free calls and music.
Two USB cables and an original USB adapter cable are included. USB tethering lets the unit share your phone's mobile data over a cable.
Volume, track skip, voice assistant and phone buttons on the wheel all keep working through the CANbus decoder, with no reprogramming.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
The unit supports AHD cameras and works with the factory backup camera if your car has one. A camera cable is included.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
A TDA7708 RDS radio is built in. DAB+ needs an external tuner such as the XTRONS USBDAB01, USBDAB02, USBDAB04, ACUSBDAB05T or ACUSBDAB06.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, useful for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto while parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
You can add an OBD scanner to read trouble codes, a TPMS to show tyre pressures, or a keyboard. Each is sold separately.

The unit replaces the factory radio or COMAND and comes with a CANbus box, a fibre optic decoder and two ISO wiring harnesses. Before ordering, measure your original unit: the top width of this one is 251mm, and it won't fit if yours is 260mm. The centre console must be trapezoidal. A CLK-Class (2005-2006) with COMAND APS NTG 2 also needs the XTRONS FOBB03 optical decoder box. Professional installation is recommended.

No. The CD changer will not work after this unit is fitted, and it doesn't show the car's air conditioning information.
An extra optical decoder box to keep the original COMAND system. The XTRONS FOBB03 is compatible.
Insert a micro-SIM card with a data plan and the unit connects on its own.
