A 12.3-inch Android 14 screen upgrade for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class W176, CLA-Class C117, GLA-Class X156 and G-Class W463 with the COMAND APS NTG4.5 or NTG4.7 system. You keep COMAND, the steering wheel controls, the factory camera and parking sensors, and gain wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and 4G.
Your iPhone connects to CarPlay without a cable, so maps, calls and music appear on the 12.3-inch screen soon after you set off. The phone can stay in your pocket or the cubby.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect to Android Auto wirelessly too. Navigation, messages and music apps appear in a driving layout, and Google Assistant handles voice requests.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 2400×900 IPS display uses nano-texture glass with an anti-reflective coating to cut glare, which matters in a car where the sun moves across the dashboard all day.
The screen is fully laminated and has 8-bit colour depth, so maps and video look sharp, and the wide format suits split-screen use.
You can switch between Android 14 and the original COMAND system whenever you like. The steering wheel buttons for volume, track skip and COMAND navigation keep working through the CANbus connection.
The factory camera and parking sensors stay in use, and the car's speed, fuel level and safety alerts are still shown.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
A 4G LTE module is built in. With a SIM card fitted, the unit has its own data for streaming and live navigation, without tethering to your phone.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz lets you connect to a hotspot or home network for app downloads and updates.
Bluetooth 5.1 streams music from your phone and handles hands-free calls.
The wide screen can show navigation and another app side by side, so you can follow the route while choosing music.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, useful for apps you can't reach through CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Connect an external DAB tuner and you can listen to digital radio through the unit. The tuner is a separate accessory.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The unit supports a DVR dash cam, so you can record the road ahead and view the footage on the big screen. The dash cam is a separate accessory.
Recordings from a dash cam show on the car screen, live or played back. It needs a USB dash cam made for Android head units; an ordinary dash cam with its own screen won't connect this way. Mount the camera behind the mirror, clear of your view.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 octa-core processor at 2.0GHz runs Android 14 with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Maps, music and video apps switch quickly, and there's plenty of space for downloads.
The unit is rated to work from -30°C to +80°C.
