The XTRONS QUBH8060CI is an 8.8 inch Linux screen that replaces the original display in BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, M3 and M5 models with the CIC system. It adds Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and air gesture control while keeping the iDrive controller, amplifier, CD player, radio, Bluetooth and steering wheel controls.
This unit only works with the original BMW CIC system. CIC cars usually have a CD button and a 4 PIN LVDS port. If your car has the older CCC system, the XTRONS QUBH8060CC is the matching unit.
If the iDrive software has been changed or updated, the screen may not look like the factory version, so check your VIN with a dealer if you're unsure which system you have.
The unit runs Linux rather than Android, and it keeps the iDrive controller, amplifier, CD player, radio, Bluetooth and steering wheel controls in use.
Connect your iPhone and CarPlay puts maps, music, messages and calls on the 8.8 inch screen. You can work it from the touchscreen or ask Siri.
Plug your iPhone into the unit's USB lead and maps, calls, messages and music appear on the car screen, with Siri for voice control. Use a data cable in good condition: a charge-only lead won't work, and a worn cable is the usual cause of CarPlay dropping out.
Android phones get Android Auto, with Google Maps, music apps and calls shown on the dashboard in a layout made for driving.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 8.8 inch IPS touchscreen sits where the original display was. IPS panels hold their colours when seen from an angle, so the passenger can read the map too.
Air gesture control lets you carry out simple actions with a wave of the hand, which helps when you'd rather not reach for the glass.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, useful for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Microphone support means you can talk on hands-free calls and give voice commands to your phone's assistant without picking up the handset.
The unit supports a 720P AHD reverse camera, and a camera cable is in the box. The picture shows on the screen when you reverse.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
Your steering wheel buttons carry on working after fitting, so volume and track changes stay at your fingertips.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
The car's original Bluetooth stays in place, so your phone pairing for calls works as before.

The unit connects with the ISO wiring harness and audio cable in the box. Its sound plays through the car's AUX input, so AUX must be present, working and switched on. If your car has no working AUX input, you'll need an FM transmitter such as the XTRONS CA/ITR/FM02.
A CIC system usually has a CD button and a 4 PIN LVDS port. If the iDrive has been updated or modified, check your VIN with a dealer.
No. This unit only works with CIC. The XTRONS QUBH8060CC is the version for CCC cars.
No, it runs Linux. It gives you Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from your phone.
The unit plays through AUX. Without a working AUX input you'll need an FM transmitter such as the XTRONS CA/ITR/FM02.
