The XTRONS QAM1250M12C5 is a 10.25 inch Android 13 screen made as a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class W205, GLC-Class X253, V-Class W446 and X-Class W470 with COMAND APS NTG 5.1 or NTG 5.2. It keeps your CD player, radio and COMAND, and adds wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and a built-in 4G module.
The screen is matched to the Mercedes dashboard and runs Android alongside the original system, so you don't have to remove the CD player, radio or COMAND. Swipe on the screen to move between Android and the factory system.
It only works with the original COMAND APS NTG 5.1 or NTG 5.2 system, which usually has a 4 pin LVDS port and the NTG 5.1/5.2 interface. For NTG 4.5 or NTG 4.7, choose XTRONS QAM1245M12C45L for left-hand drive or QAM1245M12C45R for right-hand drive; for NTG4.0, choose QAM1240M12C40.
CarPlay connects wirelessly, so your iPhone's maps, calls and music come up on the 10.25 inch screen without plugging in. Siri voice commands let you ask for directions or a song while you drive.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto works wirelessly or over a cable. Google Maps, calls and music apps run on the dashboard, with Google Assistant for voice control.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 10.25 inch QLED screen gives strong, vivid colour, so maps and album art are easy to read at a glance.
The IPS panel keeps its colour when seen from the side, so the front passenger gets as clear a view as the driver.
The independent 4G module gives the unit its own internet connection once you insert a SIM card (bought separately), and you can share it as a hotspot. It carries internet data only, not phone calls, though you can make voice or video calls through apps.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the unit join a hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
Screen mirroring puts your phone's display on the dashboard, useful for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
A built-in DSP lets you adjust how the unit's audio sounds in the car.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
An RCA audio output lets you connect an external amplifier if you want to add to the system later.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
USB gives a wired connection for Android Auto and a way to play media from a USB stick.
The unit has a microphone for hands-free calls and for Siri or Google Assistant voice commands.
A 12nm octa-core chip with two Cortex-A75 cores at 2.0GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores runs Android 13 with 8GB DDR4 RAM and 128GB of solid state storage, so navigation, music and apps run together without long waits.
