A 9 inch Android head unit for the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R171 (2004-2011). It adds CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in 4G and GPS navigation, with an EQ and a 4x45W amplifier, and the CANbus box keeps the car's own information on screen.

Made for the SLK R171
This unit fits the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R171 (SLK200, SLK280, SLK300, SLK350 and SLK55) from 2004-2011, with a 247/240x162mm face panel. The centre console needs to be trapezoidal without a trim strip above. With a trim strip, the XTRONS IAP92M211S is the one to choose; for a quadratic-shaped console, the IQP94M245P.
To keep the original COMAND APS NTG 2 system, you'll need an optical decoder box: the FOBB01 for 2004-2008 cars or the FOBB03 for 2009-2011 cars.
After fitting, the CD changer and the original motorised compartment stop working, and air conditioning information isn't shown. The unit doesn't play discs.
Apple CarPlay
CarPlay puts your iPhone's maps, music and messages on the 9 inch screen, where they're far easier to use than on the phone. Siri takes requests by voice.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto
Android phones get full-featured Android Auto, with Google Maps and music apps in a simple layout and Google Assistant for voice control.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
9 inch IPS screen
The 9 inch display runs at 1280×720 with a Grade-A G+G touch screen, so it responds quickly and stays clear from either seat, roof up or down.
Built-in 4G
The built-in 4G LTE module supports European and Asian networks. With a SIM card, navigation and music streaming keep running without your phone. A 4G antenna and SIM card slot cable are in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi connects the unit to a hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
DSP and EQ
The advanced EQ system lets you customise the sound in detail and balance it across the cabin.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
4x45W amplifier
A TCB001HQ amplifier rated at 4x45W keeps the sound stable at different volume levels. An SI4755 radio with RDS handles FM.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
DAB radio
The unit supports an external DAB tuner for digital radio, sold separately.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, handy for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto. It's best used when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
USB
Two USB cables and a USB cable adapter are included for connecting phones and USB drives.
External microphone
An external microphone can be connected for clearer hands-free calls and voice commands.
Reversing camera
AHD cameras are supported, and a camera cable is in the box. The CANbus decoding also keeps the car's reversing control working.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
Car information and performance
The CANbus box keeps original features working after the upgrade and shows car information such as ACC control. An Octa-Core A55 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage runs the optimised Android system and plays 1080P video.

The unit comes with ISO wiring harnesses, a CANbus box and radio antenna adapters. You may need to trim the plastic guide rails inside the radio slot, so test all functions before modifying anything. If your car's power port matches the one XTRONS shows and there's no radio antenna port, you'll also need the AK/PSP90M211/PWRC power cable, AK/PF7M211A/FOBB01 decoder and EC/ARL/RANT01 antenna.
Will I keep COMAND?
Only with an optical decoder box: the XTRONS FOBB01 for 2004-2008 cars with COMAND APS NTG 2, or the FOBB03 for 2009-2011 cars.
Will it fit my SLK's console?
It needs a trapezoidal console without a trim strip above. With a trim strip, use the IAP92M211S; for a quadratic-shaped console, the IQP94M245P.
Will my CD changer still work?
No. The CD changer and the original motorised compartment stop working after fitting.
Does it play CDs?
No, this unit does not play discs.
