The XTRONS QBMH2440M12ER is a 12.3 inch 2K Android 14 screen for right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz E-Class W212 saloons and S212 estates (2009-2012) with the COMAND APS NTG4.0 system. It adds wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and 4G, and you can switch back to the original COMAND system at any time.
CarPlay connects to your iPhone without a cable and is ready within seconds of starting the car. Maps, messages and music appear on the 12.3 inch screen.
The phone stays in your pocket, so there's nothing to plug in on a quick trip.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto also runs wirelessly, with navigation, calls and music on the big screen. Google Assistant lets you ask for directions or send a message by voice.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
You can switch between the Android 14 interface and the original COMAND system whenever you like. COMAND control, steering wheel shortcuts, factory camera support and the parking sensors all stay.
Through the CANbus connection the unit can show speed, fuel level and safety alerts from the car.
The 2400×900 IPS display uses nano-texture glass with an anti-reflective coating, which keeps glare down in direct sunlight. 8-bit colour depth gives smooth, natural-looking pictures for maps and 2K video.
IPS also means the passenger sees a clear picture from the side.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 (Kryo 260, 8-core, 2.0GHz) with an Adreno 610 GPU runs Android 14. With 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage, it keeps navigation, music and other apps running side by side.
It's rated from -30°C to +80°C.
The wide screen supports split-screen use, so you can keep navigation on one side while choosing music or checking something else on the other.
A 4G LTE module is built in, with a 4G antenna in the box. With a data SIM the unit streams music and keeps maps live without tethering your phone.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) carries wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and lets the unit download apps and updates from a hotspot or home network.
Bluetooth 5.1 handles hands-free calls and music streaming from your phone.
The original steering wheel controls for volume, track skip and COMAND navigation keep working through CANbus integration, with no reprogramming needed.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
The unit supports a DVR, so you can add a dash cam that records the road ahead and view it on the screen. The dash cam is sold separately.
Recordings from a dash cam show on the car screen, live or played back. It needs a USB dash cam made for Android head units; an ordinary dash cam with its own screen won't connect this way. Mount the camera behind the mirror, clear of your view.
DAB radio is supported with an external DAB adapter, sold separately.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, which is useful for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto while parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.

The screen is a plug-and-play fit for cars with COMAND APS NTG4.0, connecting with the included LVDS cable and ISO wiring harness. Sound plays through the car's AUX input, so make sure AUX is enabled. If your car has an AMI port, connect the included AMI cable to the "audio out" port on the ISO cable.
NTG4.0 cars have a 10-pin LVDS port or the New Telematic Generation 4.0 interface. NTG 4.5 or NTG 4.7 cars need the QBMH2445M12ER, and NTG 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2 cars need the QBMH2450M12ER.
Yes, for left-hand drive W212 and S212 cars with NTG 4.0, choose the QBMH2440M12EL.
Yes. Volume, track skip and COMAND navigation from the wheel keep working through CANbus, with no reprogramming.
