A 9 inch Android 14 head unit for BMW E90, E91, E92 and E93 models, including the M3, that don't have iDrive or a factory LCD screen. It has built-in DAB+, wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, 4G and an AKM DSP.
The unit fits the E90 Sedan (2005-2012), E91 Touring (2005-2012), E92 Coupe (2006-2013), E93 Convertible (2007-2013) and M3 (2007-2012), with a 295/247x135mm face panel. It's only for cars without iDrive or a factory LCD screen; those cars need QTB8060CC or QTB8060CI instead. It doesn't play discs.
Android 14 runs on a 12nm octa core 2.2GHz processor with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB solid state storage, rated for −30°C to +80°C. Built-in gyroscope sensors give an inclinometer showing ride height, roll and pitch, plus a compass, which is useful off road.
DAB+ is built into the unit, so you get digital radio without adding an external tuner. Noise-cancelling and signal optimisation help keep stations clear as you drive.
FM and AM come from an SI4755 tuner with RDS, which shows station names and information.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The screen works as a wireless display and controller for your iPhone, with maps, calls and music shown on the dashboard. It supports iPhone 5 and later on iOS 8 and above, and Siri voice commands keep your hands on the wheel.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Full-featured Android Auto connects without wiring for phones on Android 4.3 and above. Google Maps, music apps and voice commands are on the 9 inch screen.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
Insert a Micro-SIM card and the unit has its own 4G mobile broadband for live maps, streaming and apps. A SIM card slot cable and 4G antenna are supplied, and USB tethering is supported too.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
A separate Wi-Fi antenna is included. Connect to a hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
The AKM DSP chip lets you set the sound to your taste with custom modes and EQ settings, from fuller bass to clearer vocals. The built-in TDA7388 amplifier drives the speakers.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
The 9 inch capacitive touch screen has a 1280×720 resolution and G+G glass. The IPS panel holds its colours at wide angles, so it's readable from either front seat. It plays 2K video.
Mirror your phone's screen onto the head unit to use apps that aren't in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
The supplied microphone mounts near the driver for clear hands-free calls and voice commands.
Two USB cables are included, for wired connections and for playing music or video from a USB stick.
A camera cable is supplied and the unit supports AHD cameras, so you can add a reversing camera with a sharp picture.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.

Remove the plastic frame before fitting. The ISO wiring harness comes with a 6m extension cable that must be connected to the car's battery so the unit keeps its memory. Two air-conditioning covers are supplied; if neither suits your air-conditioning face panel, the two sides of the plastic frame need cutting as shown in the product photos. Cars with Logic7 or a fibre optic factory radio without 8 speaker wires need a decoder (XTRONS FOBB05 is compatible) to keep the factory amplifier.
No. DAB+ is built in.
A decoder to keep the factory amplifier and avoid no sound. XTRONS FOBB05 is compatible.
