XTRONS IDP9046B is a 9 inch Android head unit, custom fit for the BMW E46 3 Series and M3, the Rover 75 and the MG ZT. It adds CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in 4G and GPS navigation, with a CANbus box that shows car information such as mileage on the screen.
CarPlay puts your iPhone's maps, music, calls and messages on the 9 inch screen without a cable. Siri is available directly for hands-free requests.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones run Android Auto on the head unit, with Google Maps, music apps and Google Assistant on a larger, easier-to-tap screen.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 9 inch IPS display runs at 1280×720 with Grade-A G+G touch screen technology. It's a big step up in size and clarity from the E46's original radio.
Fit a SIM card using the supplied SIM card slot cable and the unit has its own data for navigation, music streaming and online apps. It supports European and Asian 4G networks, and a 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the unit join a phone hotspot or home network for app updates and downloads.
The supplied CANbus box keeps original features working and shows car information, such as ACC control and mileage, on the head unit.
The DSP and EQ system let you adjust the sound in detail to suit the car's speakers.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
The TCB001HQ amplifier gives 4x45W and keeps the output stable at different volume levels. Cars with a Logic7 system, or a factory radio with a fibre optic input and no 8 speaker wires, need the XTRONS FOBB05 decoder to keep the factory amplifier.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
Microphone support allows hands-free calls and voice assistants through the head unit.
USB support lets you connect a phone or play music and 1080P video from a USB stick.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's screen on the head unit for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto. Use it when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
The SI4755 radio has RDS for FM. DAB digital radio works with an external DAB adapter, sold separately.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.

The unit is custom fit with a 233/248x113mm face panel, and an ISO wiring harness, radio antenna cable and CANbus box are supplied. Depending on the car you may need extra cables: ISOFZ and FZMF if the antenna port is in the boot, EXL005 or EXL007 for a 4.3" or 7" screen radio or a rear navigation drive, ICE/ACS/BMWDSP01 for a blue 12pin plug, and the FOBB05 decoder for Logic7. In a Rover 75 or MG ZT the trim on both sides must be cut, so check everything works first.
Yes, with the XTRONS FOBB05 decoder, which keeps the factory amplifier and avoids a no-sound problem.
Yes, but the trim on both sides needs cutting, and a 36pin radio harness needs the XTRONS AK/PSP9046B/ISOCBL02.
Yes. It has a built-in 4G module for European and Asian networks, with a SIM card slot cable supplied.
