The XTRONS PX8446BLHGS is an 8.8 inch Android 14 head unit for the BMW E46 3 Series and M3, the Rover 75 and the MG ZT. It has wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, 4G with a Micro-SIM, an AKM DSP and a built-in inclinometer.
CarPlay connects your iPhone without a cable, so maps, music and messages are on the 8.8 inch screen without plugging in. It supports iPhone 5 and later models with iOS 8 and above.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Full-featured Android Auto brings Google Maps, music and calls to the screen, with voice control. It supports Android phones with Android 4.3 and above.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 8.8 inch HD IPS screen has a G+G touch panel. IPS stops colours shifting at wide angles, so the passenger gets a clear view too.
Insert a Micro-SIM card and the unit has its own 4G connection for maps and streaming. A 4G antenna and SIM card slot cable are in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi connects the unit to a home network or hotspot.
The AKM DSP chip has customisable modes and EQ settings, so you can set the sound for the music you play and the car's speakers.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
Built-in gyroscope sensors run an inclinometer showing the car's roll and pitch angle, plus a compass for trail driving.
Android 14 runs on a 12nm octa core 2.0GHz processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The components are tested from −30°C to +80°C.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Two USB cables are in the box for phones and USB devices.
A microphone is included for hands-free calls and voice commands.
A camera cable is included for connecting a reversing camera.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
DAB digital radio works when an external DAB tuner is connected.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.

Check the year, dimensions and shape of your centre console before ordering; the face panel is 248x119mm. Some cars need extra cables: XTRONS ISOFZ and FZMF if the antenna port is in the boot, an EXL005 or EXL007 6m extension for a 4.3 inch or 7 inch screen radio or rear navigation drive, an EXL007 for a DSP button or Harman Kardon system, and the FOBB05 decoder for Logic7. Connect the blue plug only if your dash has a blue 12-pin plug. In a Rover 75 or MG ZT the trim on both sides must be cut, and a 36pin harness needs the AK/PSP9046B/ISOCBL02; test every function before trimming.
The XTRONS FOBB05 decoder, to keep the factory amplifier working and avoid a no sound problem.
Yes, but the trim on both sides of the unit needs cutting. Check all functions work first. A 36pin radio harness needs the XTRONS AK/PSP9046B/ISOCBL02.
No, this unit doesn't play discs.
