XTRONS QLB42THNBR is a 14.9 inch Android 13 screen for right-hand drive BMW 3 Series F30/F31/F34/F35, 4 Series F32/F33/F36, M3 F80/F81 and M4 F82/F83 with the NBT system. It replaces the factory display, keeps the original system and CD player, and adds wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and built-in 4G.
CarPlay connects to your iPhone without a cable. Maps, music, calls and messages fill the wide screen, and Siri handles voice requests.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect wirelessly to Android Auto, with Google Maps, music apps and Google Assistant on the head unit.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 14.9 inch QLED screen gives strong colours and a wide picture. It's slim and fully laminated, with a custom bezel and a 2.5D edge, so it looks like a display from a newer BMW.
The panel uses IPS technology, so the picture stays clear and colours stay accurate from the passenger seat too.
Insert a SIM card into the supplied 4G SIM card slot and the head unit has its own data for navigation, video and apps. The 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the head unit join a phone hotspot or home network for downloads and updates.
The built-in DSP lets you adjust the sound settings. Audio plays through the car's AUX input, so make sure AUX is enabled.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
An RCA audio output lets you connect an external amplifier if you want more power than the factory system gives.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
The head unit supports a 360 camera system, sold separately, which shows a view all round the car when manoeuvring in tight spaces.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
A mini microphone comes in the box for hands-free calls and voice commands. Mount it near the driver for clear voice pickup.
A USB cable is supplied for connecting a phone or playing media from a USB stick.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's screen on the head unit for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto. Use it when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
A 12nm octa-core chip (2xCortex-A75 2.0GHz + 6xCortex-A55) runs Android 13 with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB storage.
The unit works alongside the original system, so the CD player doesn't need to come out.

This is a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display in right-hand drive NBT cars, with an ISO wiring harness, audio cable, fix mount, face panel and screws supplied. It connects to the car's AUX input for sound; without an AUX input you'll need an adapter such as the XTRONS CA/ITR/FM02 or CA/ITR/FM03. NBT EVO cars need a different model.
An NBT radio usually has a 6-pin LVDS port and a MEDIA button or touch pad on the iDrive controller. A Car ConnectedDrive interface alone doesn't confirm it.
For a right-hand drive car with NBT EVO, choose the QLB22EVB12THR.
You'll need an adapter. The XTRONS CA/ITR/FM02 and CA/ITR/FM03 are compatible.
No. The original CD player doesn't need to be removed.
