XTRONS QWBX24EVB12THR is a 12.3 inch 2K Android 14 screen that replaces the factory display in right-hand drive BMW 3 Series and 4 Series cars with the EVO system, from 2018. It's plug and play, and adds wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and built-in 4G while keeping the original system on the iDrive controller.
CarPlay connects to your iPhone without a cable, so you can get in and go. Maps, music, calls and messages show on the wide screen, and Siri takes voice requests on the move.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones link to Android Auto wirelessly. Google Maps, music apps and calls appear on the head unit, and Google Assistant handles voice commands.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The widescreen 12.3 inch IPS panel has 2K resolution and is fully laminated, so the glass and display sit together without an air gap. That keeps the picture sharp and cuts reflections.
It plays 4K video files, which is useful for passengers while you're parked.
Add a SIM card and the head unit has its own mobile data for live traffic, streaming and app updates. The 4G antenna comes in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the head unit join a phone hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
Microphone support means you can take hands-free calls through the head unit and use voice control without picking up the phone.
DAB digital radio is supported through an external DAB adapter, sold separately.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring puts your phone's screen on the head unit, handy for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto. Use it when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
A Qualcomm 685 octa-core processor runs Android 14, with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. That's plenty of space for offline maps, music and apps, and switching between them stays quick.
You can still switch back to the original BMW system and control it with the iDrive controller.

This is a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display, with an ISO wiring harness and AUX audio box supplied. It only works with the original EVO system in right-hand drive cars; left-hand drive cars need the QWBX24EVB12THL, and NBT cars need the QWBX24NB12THR. Checking your VIN with a dealer is the surest way to confirm the system.
An EVO radio usually has the EVO ID5 or EVO ID6 interface with the time shown at the end. A dealer can confirm it from your VIN.
For a right-hand drive car with NBT, choose the QWBX24NB12THR.
No. When you switch to the original system, touch doesn't work and you use the iDrive controller instead. Gesture control can't be activated after fitting.
Yes. Both CarPlay and Android Auto connect wirelessly.
