The XTRONS UA95MTVL is a 9 inch Android 15 head unit that directly replaces the factory stereo in a long list of Volkswagen, Skoda and SEAT models, from the Golf MK5 and MK6 to the Octavia and Leon Mk2. It adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in 4G and a DSP with optical, coaxial and RCA outputs.
Once paired, your iPhone connects to CarPlay without a cable each time you get in. Maps, calls, messages and music fill the 9 inch screen and the phone stays in your pocket.
On a long trip you can plug in over USB instead and run CarPlay wired while the phone charges.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect to Android Auto wirelessly or with a USB cable. Google Maps, calls and music apps then run on the dashboard with large buttons that are easy to use on the move.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 9 inch Grade-A HD QLED screen runs at 1280×720 with vivid colour and deep blacks, which keeps maps and album art easy to read. It's a big step up from the small factory displays in most of these cars.
The panel is IPS, so the picture doesn't wash out when seen from the side. The front passenger can read the map as clearly as the driver.
A built-in DQ7603 DSP lets you adjust the sound to the car's speakers and cabin, instead of putting up with the factory sound settings.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
The STMicroelectronics TCB001HQ amplifier puts out 4x45W, enough to drive the factory speakers properly on its own.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
Optical, coaxial and RCA outputs let you add an external amplifier or processor later, so the head unit can grow with your system.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
Insert a standard nano SIM card and the unit gets its own internet connection for maps, streaming and apps. You don't need to set up a hotspot on your phone each time you drive.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Dual-band Wi-Fi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz gives faster, steadier connections for streaming, updates and app downloads when you're near a known network.
Bluetooth 5.4 handles hands-free calls and music streaming from any phone, including ones not using CarPlay or Android Auto.
With a wired USB connection you can mirror your phone's screen on the head unit, useful for apps that CarPlay and Android Auto don't support.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
The built-in RDS-FM/AM tuner shows station names. The unit is DAB+ ready, so adding an external DAB tuner gives you digital stations as well.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The unit works with 720P/1080P AHD cameras and switches to the camera picture as soon as you select reverse. The camera connection is part of the wiring harness.
If your car has a 40pin/36pin power port and a factory reversing camera, you'll need the ICE/SS/VWCAN01 ISO cable to keep that camera working.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
An ASR8662 octa-core CPU and Arm Mali G310 GPU run Android 15 with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB UFS 2.2 storage. From cold it starts in 50 seconds, and a warm start takes 1 second, so music and maps are back almost as soon as you turn the key. A cooling system keeps it steady on long drives.

The UA95MTVL directly replaces the factory stereo using the supplied wiring harness and mounting kit, with no cutting or splicing. Cars with a 52pin power port need the AK/VW/ISOMQB ISO cable, and cars with a 40pin/36pin port and a factory reversing camera need ICE/SS/VWCAN01 to keep the camera. T5 owners should compare the centre console with the product photos, as a quadratic console won't take this unit, and Skoda owners should check the shape of their dashboard.
A wide range of Volkswagen, Skoda and SEAT models, including the Golf MK5 and MK6, Passat B6 and B7, Polo MK5, Tiguan, Octavia, Superb and Leon Mk2. Check the full list for your model and year.
