XTRONS IMH94MTVL is a 9 inch Android 14 head unit, custom fit for a long list of Volkswagen, Škoda and SEAT models, from the Golf MK5 and MK6 to the T5 and Octavia. It adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in 4G and an AKM DSP, and the CANbus box keeps the factory steering wheel controls.

Wireless Apple CarPlay
Once paired, your iPhone connects to CarPlay without a cable. Maps, calls and music appear on the 9 inch screen, and Siri takes voice requests on the move.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Wireless Android Auto
Android phones connect wirelessly to Android Auto, putting Google Maps, music apps and messages on the head unit with Google Assistant for voice control.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
9 inch QLED screen
The 9 inch QLED screen runs at 1280×720, a big step up from the factory radio display in these VW Group cars. Colours are strong and the anti-glare finish helps in direct sunlight.
IPS panel with G+G glass
It's an IPS panel behind G+G tempered glass, so the passenger sees a clear picture as well. The touch screen responds like a phone.
AKM DSP and 36-band EQ
An AKM 7604 DSP with 36-band equalisation lets you tune the sound to your car's speakers. The TDA7851 amplifier gives 4x 48W output.
The unit doesn't support Dynaudio or Fender sound systems, so check your car's audio system before ordering.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
Optical, coaxial and RCA outputs
Optical, coaxial and RCA audio outputs make it straightforward to add an external amplifier or processor. An RCA cable is in the box.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
Built-in 4G LTE
Insert a SIM and the head unit has its own connection for live traffic, weather and streaming, without tethering your phone. The 4G antenna is supplied.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Dual-band Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi on 2.4G and 5G bands carries wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and lets the unit join a hotspot for updates.
Dual Bluetooth
Two Bluetooth modules run at once. The Qualcomm module streams music with aptX HD, while the Unisoc 5.2 module can connect to an OBD-II scanner or dash cam.
Factory controls kept
CANbus integration keeps your factory features, and the steering wheel controls for volume, track and calls keep working. The CANbus box and cable are supplied, and the unit works with the car's original wiring harness.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
Reversing camera
A camera cable is in the box for an aftermarket reversing camera. If your car has a 40pin or 36pin power port and an original reversing camera, add the XTRONS ICE/SS/VWCAN01 cable to keep the factory camera working.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
DAB radio with an add-on
DAB digital radio works with an external DAB adapter, sold separately.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
Screen mirroring
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto. Use it when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Unisoc 7865 and Android 14
The Unisoc 7865 octa-core chipset has 2x A75 cores at 2.2GHz and 6x A55 cores at 1.8GHz, with 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. Navigation, music and 1080P video run together without slowing down.
It's rated to work from -30°C to +80°C.

The head unit is custom fit and works with the car's original wiring harness, with an ISO wiring harness, radio adapter cable and CANbus box supplied. Cars with a 52pin power port need the AK/VW/ISOMQB ISO cable, and cars with a 40pin or 36pin port and a factory reversing camera need the ICE/SS/VWCAN01 to keep the camera. Compare your T5 or Škoda centre console with the product photos before ordering.
