A custom-fit 9-inch Android 14 head unit for the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class R171 (2004-2012). It adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in 4G and DTS sound processing, with a fully laminated QLED screen and an HDMI output.

Wireless Apple CarPlay
CarPlay connects to your iPhone without a cable, so your maps, calls, messages and music come up on the 9-inch screen once you're in. In a two-seater with little storage space, not having a cable trailing across the cabin is a real help.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Wireless Android Auto
Android phones connect to Android Auto wirelessly too, putting navigation, calls and music apps on the dashboard in a layout made for driving.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
9-inch QLED screen
The 9-inch quantum dot (QLED) screen has a 1280×800 resolution in a 16:10 shape, with rich colour and fine detail. It's fully laminated, which cuts reflections and makes the picture look crisp.
IPS viewing angles
IPS technology keeps the picture clear from wide angles, so your passenger can follow the map or pick the music too.
AKM DSP and DTS Digital Sound
The AKM DSP lets you shape the sound to the SLK's cabin, and the Si47925 audio processor adds DTS decoding. The result is clean, detailed audio that's less prone to interference.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
TDA7808 amplifier
An automotive-grade TDA7808 digital amplifier chip drives the speakers efficiently, so there's no need for a separate amplifier in a standard setup.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
Optical and RCA audio outputs
Optical and RCA audio outputs let you add an external amplifier or subwoofer. An RCA cable is included.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
HDMI output for rear passengers
The HDMI output sends video to another screen. The Adreno 610 GPU plays most video formats up to 4K, at 4K 30fps.
It sends video from the head unit to headrest or roof screens, so passengers can watch on the move. The screens need an input that matches this output, so check the connection type in the specifications before buying them.
Integrated 4G LTE
Fit a SIM card and the unit has its own internet connection for navigation, streaming and tracking apps, and it can share that connection with passengers. In Europe it supports bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38 and 40.
A 4G antenna comes in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi lets the unit join your phone's hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
Screen mirroring
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, handy for apps that aren't available in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
USB
Two USB cables are included for connecting a phone or playing music and video from a USB stick.
Microphone
The unit has a microphone for hands-free calls and voice commands.
Snapdragon 665 and Android 14
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 is an 11nm octa-core processor (4x Cortex A73 and 4x Cortex A53) running at up to 2.0GHz. It runs Android 14 with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 256GB of storage, and a cooling fan keeps it running steadily.
The unit doesn't play discs.

- If your vehicle is SLK-class (2004-2008) one and has a COMAND APS NTG 1.0 system, you will need to order XTRONS FOBB01 .

The unit fits an SLK R171 with a trapezoidal centre console without a trim strip above; the face panel is 247/240x162mm, and face panels, ISO wiring harnesses, a CANbus box and a fibre optic decoder come with it. To keep COMAND you'll need an XTRONS optical decoder box (FOBB01 for NTG 1.0, FOBB03 for NTG 2.5). You may need to trim the plastic guide rails in the radio slot, so test every function before modifying anything.
Can I keep my COMAND system?
Yes, with an extra optical decoder box: XTRONS FOBB01 for a 2004-2008 car with COMAND APS NTG 1.0, or FOBB03 for a 2009-2011 car with NTG 2.5.
My console has a trim strip above it. Which unit do I need?
The XTRONS IAP92M209. For a rectangular console, the IQP94M245P.
Will my CD changer still work?
No. The CD changer and the original motorised compartment won't work after fitting, and air conditioning information isn't shown.
Will the 4G work in the UK?
It supports the European 4G bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38 and 40. Check your network uses one of these.
Does it play CDs?
No. This unit doesn't play discs.
