Mercedes-Benz ML W164 and GL X164 9 inch Android Head Unit with Wireless CarPlay, DAB+ and 4G | PXP94M164GDAB

This unit fits the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class W164 (ML300, ML350, ML450 and ML500) from 2005-2011 and the GL-Class X164 (G320, G350, G420, GL450 and GL500) from 2006-2012. The face panel is 271/260x144mm.

If your car has COMAND APS NTG 2 or NTG 2.5, you'll need the XTRONS FOBB02 optical decoder box to keep the original COMAND system. Once fitted, the CD changer and motorised compartment stop working, and air conditioning information isn't shown. The unit doesn't play discs.

DAB+ digital radio is built in, so you get clear digital stations without adding a USB tuner. Noise cancelling and signal optimisation help keep reception steady. An SI4755 radio with RDS handles FM as well.

Your iPhone connects to CarPlay without wires, so maps, music and calls appear on the 9 inch screen and you can use voice commands while driving. It works with iPhone 5 and later on iOS 8 and above.

Full-featured Android Auto puts Google Maps, music and messages on the screen. It supports Android phones running Android 4.3 and above.

The AKM DSP chip gives you customisable sound modes and EQ settings, so you can set the bass, mids and highs to suit the music you play. A TDA7388 amplifier drives the speakers.

Insert a Micro-SIM card and the unit has its own 4G mobile broadband connection for maps and streaming. A 4G antenna and SIM card slot cable are in the box, and USB tethering is also supported.

Wi-Fi lets the unit join a hotspot or home network for updates and app downloads. A Wi-Fi antenna is supplied.

The unit is a GPS navigation system in its own right, with a GPS antenna supplied, so maps run on the head unit without a phone.

The 9 inch IPS screen has a 1280×720 resolution and a G+G capacitive touch panel. Colours stay true at wide angles, so the passenger sees the same clear picture as the driver.

A microphone is included, so voice commands and hands-free calls come through clearly.

Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, handy for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto. Use it when parked.

The unit supports AHD cameras, and a camera cable is in the box. If your car already has the original reversing camera, you'll need the XTRONS ICE/ACS/FZMRM01 adapter to keep it working.

Gyroscope sensors drive an inclinometer that shows the vehicle's roll and pitch angle, with a compass, which is useful off-road. The 12nm octa core 2.2GHz processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM is rated from −30°C to +80°C and plays 2K video.
