The XTRONS QLM4450GLE is a 14.9 inch 2K Android 14 screen that replaces the factory display in the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class W166 and GLS-Class X166 (2016-2018). It works with the original COMAND NTG 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2 system, so the factory controls, camera and CD player stay, and it adds wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and built-in 4G.
The 14.9 inch Grade-A 2K IPS screen has an ultra-wide 32:9 shape, so there's room to keep a map and your music on screen together without switching between them.
The display is fully laminated and ultra-slim, with a custom bezel and a metallic silver frame made to suit the Mercedes interior. IPS keeps colours accurate from both front seats.
The unit sits alongside the original system rather than removing it, so you don't need to take out the CD player. COMAND control, steering wheel controls, the factory camera and the factory CD player all carry on working, and it's compatible with the optic fibre amplifier.
Original car information such as speed, fuel level and safety warnings can be shown on the display.
Your iPhone connects without a cable and its maps, calls and music appear on the wide screen. Voice commands let you use it without taking your eyes off the road.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones get the same: Android Auto runs wirelessly, putting Google Maps, calls and music apps on the dashboard.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The screen can act as a wireless display and controller for an iOS or Android phone, so apps on the phone can be used from the dashboard.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Insert a SIM card into the built-in 4G module and the unit has its own data connection for navigation, video and streaming, without tethering a phone.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the unit join a hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
The XTRONS USB audio box plugs into the car's USB port. Select the matching Media Interface in the NTG menu and the unit's sound plays through the car's audio system.
A built-in DSP lets you adjust how the unit's audio sounds in the cabin.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
A microphone picks up your voice for hands-free calls and voice commands in CarPlay and Android Auto.
DAB radio is available by adding an external DAB tuner to the unit.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The factory steering wheel controls are supported, so you can keep your hands on the wheel while changing what's playing.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
A 12nm octa-core processor runs Android 14 with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB EMMC 5.1 storage, giving room for the apps you use most.

The QLM4450GLE is a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display and leaves the original CD player in place. It only works with the COMAND APS NTG 5.0, NTG 5.1 or NTG 5.2 system, which has a 4-pin LVDS port or the NTG 5.0/5.1/5.2 interface, so check your car before ordering. For sound, plug the XTRONS USB audio box into the car's USB port and choose the matching Media Interface in the NTG menu.
