For the X3 E83 without a factory screen
This screen is for left-hand drive BMW X3 E83 cars from 2004-2009 that came with no original display. It won't fit a car with a factory hidden monitor.
It's styled to match the original dashboard, and you don't need to take out the CD player, radio or iDrive to fit it.
Wireless Apple CarPlay
CarPlay connects your iPhone wirelessly, so maps, music and calls show on the 10.25 inch screen. Siri takes requests by voice.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto
Android Auto works wirelessly or with a cable. Google Maps and your music apps appear on the large screen, and Google Assistant handles voice commands.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
10.25 inch IPS screen
The 10.25 inch display runs at 1920×720 with a Grade-A G+G touch screen. The IPS panel keeps colours consistent at wide angles, so the passenger sees the same picture as the driver.
Built-in 4G
A built-in 4G LTE module supports European and Asian networks. With a SIM card, the unit stays online for navigation and music streaming without your phone. A 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi connects the screen to a hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
Screen mirroring
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the car screen, handy for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto. Use it when parked.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
USB
A USB cable is in the box for connecting a phone or a USB drive with music and video.
External microphone
An external microphone can be connected for clearer hands-free calls and voice commands to Siri or Google Assistant.
DAB radio
The unit supports an external DAB tuner for digital radio, sold separately.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
