A custom-fit 8.8-inch Android 14 head unit for the BMW E46 (including the M3), Rover 75 and MG ZT. It adds CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in 4G and DTS sound processing, and has an HDMI output for a rear-seat screen.
CarPlay is built in, so your iPhone's maps, calls, messages and music appear on the 8.8-inch screen with large, simple controls. It's a big step up from the original radio in a car of this age.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect through Android Auto, putting navigation, calls and music apps on the dashboard in a layout made for driving.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 8.8-inch quantum dot (QLED) screen has a 1280×480 resolution and strong, accurate colour. Its long, slim shape suits the E46 and Rover dashboards.
IPS technology keeps the picture clear from wide angles, so your passenger can follow the map or pick the music too.
The Si47925 audio processor adds DTS decoding, and the built-in DSP lets you shape the sound to your car. The result is clean, detailed audio that's less prone to interference.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
An automotive-grade TDA7808 digital amplifier chip drives the speakers efficiently, so there's no need for a separate amplifier in a standard setup.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
Optical and RCA audio outputs let you add an external amplifier or subwoofer later. An RCA cable is included.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
The HDMI output sends video to a screen in the back, so passengers can watch a film while you see the map up front. The unit plays video up to 4K.
It sends video from the head unit to headrest or roof screens, so passengers can watch on the move. The screens need an input that matches this output, so check the connection type in the specifications before buying them.
Fit a SIM card and the unit has its own internet connection for navigation, streaming and tracking apps, and it can share that connection with passengers. In Europe it supports bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38 and 40.
A 4G antenna comes in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the unit join your phone's hotspot or your home network for app downloads and updates.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the head unit, handy for apps that aren't available in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Two USB cables are included for connecting a phone or playing music and video from a USB stick.
The unit has a microphone for hands-free calls and voice commands.
Connect an external DAB tuner to listen to digital radio. The tuner is a separate accessory.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 is an 11nm octa-core processor (4x Cortex A73 and 4x Cortex A53) running at up to 2.0GHz. It runs Android 14 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is plenty of room for maps, music and video.
The unit doesn't have a DVD drive.

The unit comes with face panels, an ISO wiring harness and a CANbus box, and the face panel measures 248x120mm. Depending on the car, you may need extra cables: XTRONS ISOFZ (and FZMF if the aerial port is in the boot), EXL007 for a factory screen with a 12 pin plug, a rear navigation drive, a DSP button or a Harman Kardon system, ICE/ACS/BMWDSP01 for a blue 12pin plug, or the FOBB05 decoder for a fibre optic amplifier. In a Rover 75 or MG ZT, the trim on both sides of the unit has to be cut, so check everything works before trimming.
Yes, but the trim on both sides of the unit has to be cut to fit. If your radio harness is 36pin, you'll also need the XTRONS AK/PSP9046B/ISOCBL02 harness.
The XTRONS EXL007 extension cable. If the car has a fibre optic amplifier system, you'll also need the XTRONS FOBB05 decoder.
It supports the European 4G bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38 and 40. Check your network uses one of these bands.
