Android blends with the 6 Series' original NBT system, and the original CD player stays in place. The unit only works with the original BMW NBT system.

NBT usually has a 6-pin LVDS port and a MEDIA button or touch pad on the iDrive controller. A "Car ConnectedDrive" interface on its own doesn't prove it's NBT.

The 14.9″ IPS screen is slim and fully laminated, with a custom bezel and 2.5D edge that give it a built-in look. Colours stay true from the passenger seat, and the wide shape leaves room for a map and music together.

CarPlay connects without a cable, so your iPhone stays in your pocket. Maps, calls and music appear on screen and Siri takes voice requests.

Android phones connect wirelessly, putting Google Maps, music and calls on the screen with Google Assistant for voice control.

Insert a SIM card and the 4G module gives the unit its own connection for navigation, video and streaming.

Wi-Fi lets the unit join a phone hotspot or home network for downloads and updates.

A DSP lets you adjust the sound to suit the car's speakers and your taste.

Navigation apps run on the unit itself as well as through CarPlay and Android Auto.

USB connects a phone or a USB stick with music and video.

The unit supports a microphone for hands-free calls and voice commands.

Digital radio works with an external DAB tuner, sold separately.

Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the 14.9″ screen, handy for apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto when parked.

A 12nm Octa-core chip (2xCortex-A75 2.0GHz + 6xCortex-A55) runs Android 13 with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB storage, which keeps everyday apps responsive.
