A 12.3 inch Android 13 screen for the BMW 5 Series G30 and G31 from 2018 with the NBT EVO system. It runs alongside the original system, with no need to remove the CD player, and adds wireless CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, built-in 4G and a DSP.
The screen is for the 5 Series G30 G31 from 2018 with the original NBT EVO system. Android runs alongside the BMW system, and the original CD player stays in place.
An NBT EVO radio usually has a 6-pin LVDS port, and the version info shows NBTevo_xxxx and Automatic map update; the look of the menus alone doesn't prove it. NBT cars need QLB22NBFV, and CIC cars need QLB22CIB12FV.
After fitting, gesture control can't be activated and touch doesn't work on the original system, so you use the iDrive controller there. A 12nm octa-core chip (2xCortex-A75 + 6xCortex-A55) with 4GB DDR4 RAM and 64GB solid state storage runs Android 13.
The fully laminated screen reduces reflections, so it stays readable even in sunlight, and the IPS panel looks the same from both front seats. The ultra-slim, tailor-made bezel gives a full-screen look like newer BMW models.
Your iPhone connects without a cable, so maps, calls and music appear on the big screen while the phone stays in your pocket.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android phones connect wirelessly too, bringing Google Maps, music apps and voice commands to the dashboard.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
Insert a SIM card and the unit has its own 4G connection for navigation, video and apps, without using your phone's data.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Connect to a phone hotspot or your home Wi-Fi for app downloads and updates.
The DSP lets you adjust the sound to suit the car, so the music is balanced around the driver's seat.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
Mirror your phone onto the 12.3 inch screen to use apps that aren't part of CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Microphone support gives you hands-free calls and voice commands through CarPlay and Android Auto.
Use USB to connect a phone or play music and video from a USB stick.
The unit supports an external DAB receiver for digital radio. It isn't built in.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.

The screen is a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display, and the original CD player stays where it is. Confirm your car has NBT EVO first by checking for a 6-pin LVDS port and NBTevo_xxxx in the version info.
It usually has a 6-pin LVDS port, and the version info shows NBTevo_xxxx and Automatic map update.
