The XTRONS UAH85A3AL is an 8 inch Android 15 head unit made to fit the Audi A3 8P, S3 8P and RS3 Sportback. It brings wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, built-in 4G and a DSP with a 4x45W amplifier to the dashboard.

Wireless CarPlay
CarPlay connects to your iPhone without a cable, so maps, music and messages appear on the 8 inch screen as soon as the phone links up. If you'd rather charge as you go, you can plug in by USB for a wired connection instead.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto
Android Auto works wirelessly or over USB. Google Maps, music apps and calls show on the dashboard screen with large touch controls.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
Built-in 4G
A 4G LTE modem is built in. Put a standard nano SIM card in the unit and it has its own internet connection for maps, streaming and apps, with no need to share your phone's data. A 4G antenna is in the box.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
QLED screen
The 8 inch QLED screen runs at 1280×720 and gives strong, vivid colour for maps and video.
IPS panel for wide viewing angles
The panel is IPS, so it keeps its colours when viewed from an angle. The passenger can read the map or pick music without the picture washing out.
DSP sound tuning
The built-in DSP DQ7603 lets you shape the sound to suit your car and speakers. It works with a 4x45W amplifier, so the unit can drive the car's speakers directly.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
4x45W amplifier
The STMicroelectronics TCB001HQ amplifier is rated 4x45W. That gives enough power for the factory speakers without adding a separate amplifier.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
Optical, coaxial and RCA outputs
If you want to add an external amplifier or a subwoofer, there are optical, coaxial and RCA audio outputs. An RCA cable is in the box.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
Dual-band Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi works on 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks, so you can connect at home for updates or use a hotspot on the road.
Bluetooth 5.4
Bluetooth 5.4 handles hands-free calls and music streaming from your phone. The microphone in the box lets callers hear you clearly while your hands stay on the wheel.
Screen mirroring
Screen mirroring shows your phone's screen on the head unit, which is handy for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Reversing camera input
The unit supports 720P/1080P AHD cameras and shows the picture as soon as you select reverse. A camera cable is in the box.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
Radio and DAB
There's an RDS-FM/AM tuner built in. For DAB digital radio, the unit works with an external DAB tuner connected to it.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.

The unit is a custom fit for the A3 8P family and connects with the ISO wiring harness and CANbus box in the box. If your car's original CD unit is single DIN size, this unit won't fit. Some cars need the XTRONS ICE/ACS/ISOFZ cable for the radio antenna, so compare your antenna port with the product photo. If the rear speakers have static or no sound after fitting, the XTRONS AK/INIB/NRCBL cable may be needed, for cars with a 40pin original ISO plug.
Can I use my own SIM card for internet?
Yes. The unit has a built-in 4G LTE modem and takes a standard nano SIM card for maps, streaming and apps.
Are CarPlay and Android Auto wireless or wired?
