A custom-fit 7-inch Android 14 car stereo for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class W169, B-Class W245, Viano and Vito W639, Sprinter W906 and Volkswagen Crafter. It has wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, built-in 4G and an AKM DSP, plus an inclinometer and compass.
Your iPhone connects to CarPlay without a cable, so maps, calls and music appear on the 7-inch screen as you drive off. Voice commands let you work it without taking your eyes off the road.
It works with iPhone 5 and later models on iOS 8 and above.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Full-featured Android Auto puts navigation, calls and music from your Android phone on the big screen, with voice control. It supports Android phones on Android 4.3 and above.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
Connect an external DAB tuner for digital radio. FM comes from the built-in SI4755 radio with RDS station information.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
The 7-inch 1280×720 IPS screen keeps its colours steady at wide viewing angles, so your passenger sees the same clear picture as you. G+G capacitive glass responds to light taps and swipes.
The automotive-grade AKM DSP chip lets you choose sound modes and adjust the EQ, so you can set the balance of bass, mids and treble to suit your music and your speakers.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
Insert a Micro-SIM card and the stereo has its own 4G mobile broadband connection, so live maps and streaming work without your phone's hotspot. A 4G antenna and a SIM card slot cable are included.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi lets the unit join a hotspot or home network for app downloads and updates. USB tethering is also supported.
Built-in gyroscope sensors drive an inclinometer that shows the vehicle's roll and pitch angles and ride height. Off road, that tells you how steep a slope really is before you commit to it.
There's also a compass to help you keep your bearings on a trail.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the stereo, for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
A microphone is included for hands-free calls and voice commands. Mount it close to the driver for the clearest sound.
The unit supports AHD cameras, and a camera cable is included. If your vehicle has an original rear view system, you'll need the XTRONS ICE/ACS/FZMRM01 to keep it working.
Connect a reversing camera and its picture appears on the screen when you select reverse. Automatic switching needs the reverse signal wired in. If your car already has a factory camera, check whether you need an adapter to keep it.
A 12nm octa-core 2.2GHz processor runs Android 14 with 4GB of DDR4 RAM and 64GB of solid state storage, and the TDA7388 amplifier drives the speakers. The unit plays 2K video and is tested from −30°C to +80°C.
