A plug-and-play fibre optic decoder box for Mercedes-Benz E, CLS, SLK, SL and CLK models with the MOST bus based COMAND APS NTG 2 or NTG 2.5 system. It lets an aftermarket head unit send its sound into the car's fibre optic audio system.

Sound through the factory fibre optic system
In these Mercedes models the radio, amplifier and other modules talk over a fibre optic MOST bus. Replace the head unit and that link is broken. This decoder box connects your new head unit into the fibre optic network so its sound still plays through the car's audio system.
It suits cars with COMAND APS NTG 2 or COMAND APS NTG 2.5. It can't decode the older D2B optical bus (COMAND 2.0 and COMAND 2.5), so check the plug port on your car before ordering.
Connecting the head unit
The box takes a stereo signal from the front left and right RCA outputs of your aftermarket head unit. Set the fader to the middle in the head unit's balance menu so both channels reach the box evenly.

- 1. When installing the XTRONS Decoder Box, ensure the fiber optic signal loop is unbroken. Keep any original components, such as CD changers, satellite radio, and phone modules, connected. Use a bypass loop if needed to maintain system integrity. The XTRONS ICE/ACS/FEXL009 or ICE/ACS/fiberloop is recommended.
- 2. The decoder box supports stereo input only from Front Left and Right RCA outputs. Set the fader to the middle in your after-market radio's balance menu.
- 3. Remove the sound system fuse for 15 minutes, then reinsert it to reset the system.
The box is plug-and-play, but the fibre optic loop must stay unbroken: keep original modules such as CD changers, satellite radio and phone modules connected, or use a bypass loop such as the XTRONS ICE/ACS/FEXL009. Connect the head unit's front left and right RCA outputs, then remove the sound system fuse for 15 minutes and refit it to reset the system.
Which cars is it for?
Mercedes-Benz E, CLS, SLK and SL from 2009-2012, and the CLK from 2005-2009, with COMAND APS NTG 2 or NTG 2.5.
Does it work with COMAND 2.0 or 2.5?
No. It can't decode the D2B optical bus used by COMAND 2.0 and COMAND 2.5.
There's no sound after fitting. What should I try?
Check the fibre optic loop is unbroken, set the head unit's fader to the middle, and reset the system by removing the sound system fuse for 15 minutes.
