A 9 inch Android head unit made to fit the Jeep Renegade (2015-2020). It adds wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and built-in 4G, and its CANbus decoder keeps the steering wheel controls, air-conditioning display and parking radar working.
The unit fits the Renegade from 2015-2020 with a 259x193mm face panel. There's no DVD drive. Check the year, size and shape of your centre console before ordering.
The CANbus decoder keeps the car's own information on screen after the upgrade: air-conditioning info, door status, reversing trajectory, compass info and the front and rear radar.
An octa-core A55 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage keeps the Android system responsive.
Your iPhone connects to the 9 inch screen for maps, calls and music, and Siri takes voice commands so you can keep your hands on the wheel.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Full-featured Android Auto shows Google Maps, music apps and messages on the dashboard, with Google Assistant for voice control.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 1280×720 IPS panel stays clear from both front seats, and the Grade-A G+G touch glass responds accurately to taps and swipes.
The EQ system lets you adjust the sound to suit the Renegade's cabin and your music, so it stays balanced around the car.
The sound processor lets you tune the sound to your car: an equaliser, a delay for each speaker so the sound centres on your seat, and crossovers that keep deep bass away from small speakers. Start from a preset and change one setting at a time.
The built-in TCB001HQ amplifier delivers 4x45W and keeps the output steady at low and high volumes.
The built-in amplifier drives your car's speakers directly, which is all most cars need. If your car has a factory amplifier, as many premium sound systems do, it usually stays in use and may need an adapter, so check before ordering.
The factory steering wheel buttons keep working, so volume and track changes stay at your fingertips.
Your steering wheel buttons keep working with the new unit, either through a CAN bus decoder or by teaching the unit each button. Check which your car needs before ordering. A few buttons may do nothing if the unit has no matching function.
With a SIM card fitted, the unit has its own 4G connection for navigation and music streaming. A 4G antenna and a SIM card slot cable are supplied.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Connect to a hotspot or your home Wi-Fi for app downloads and updates.
Mirror your phone's screen onto the head unit to use apps outside CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
Microphone support gives hands-free calls and voice commands for Siri and Google Assistant.
Two USB cables, a USB cable adapter and a cable for the car's original USB connection are included, so the factory USB port can still be used.
The unit supports an external DAB receiver for digital radio. It isn't built in.
Digital radio gives clearer sound and more stations than FM where there's DAB coverage. It needs a DAB aerial: a stick-on windscreen aerial is the usual choice, or a splitter if your car already has a combined FM and DAB aerial.
