A 12.3 inch Android 12 screen for the BMW 5 Series E60 and E61 (2009-2012) with the CIC system. It keeps the CD player, radio and iDrive, and adds wireless CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G, running on a Qualcomm 662 with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
This dual system screen matches the original dashboard and works with the car's CIC system. You keep the CD player, radio and iDrive, and swipe across to Android when you want it.
CarPlay connects without a cable and shows your iPhone's apps on the 12.3 inch screen, with voice commands available from the unit. It supports iPhone 5 and later models with iOS 8 and above.
Your iPhone connects on its own when you start the car, so there's no cable to plug in. It needs an iPhone with wireless CarPlay support; check yours in Settings > General > CarPlay. A cable still works when you'd rather charge on the way.
Android Auto works wirelessly and puts Google Maps, messages and music on the big screen. It supports Android phones with Android 4.3 and above.
Maps, calls, messages and music from your Android phone appear on the car screen, with Google Assistant for voice control. It needs a phone with Google services, which most Android phones have. To connect without a cable, the phone must support wireless Android Auto too.
The 1920×720 HD IPS touch screen has precise contrast and detail across its full width, and stays clear from the passenger seat as well as the driver's.
Android 12 runs on a Qualcomm 662 octa-core processor with dual channel 6GB DDR4 RAM. The 128GB SSD has room for plenty of apps, music and offline maps.
With a SIM fitted, the unit has its own data connection for music streaming, real-time navigation and sharing the internet. It's data only, so calls go through apps.
In Europe it supports bands 1,3, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38 and 40. This version doesn't support carriers in the United States and Canada.
A SIM card in the head unit gives it its own internet connection for maps, traffic and streaming, so it doesn't need your phone's hotspot. You supply the SIM and the data plan; a data-only SIM is usually the cheapest way to do it.
Wi-Fi connects the screen to a phone hotspot or your home network for streaming and app updates.
Screen mirroring shows your phone's display on the 12.3 inch screen, for apps that don't run in CarPlay or Android Auto.
Mirroring shows your phone's whole screen on the car screen, unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, which show apps designed for driving. It usually needs a companion app on the phone, and paid video streaming apps often block it.
The RCA audio output lets you connect an external amplifier if you want more power.
RCA pre-outputs send a clean, low-level signal to an external amplifier or subwoofer. Count the channels you need (front, rear and sub) against the outputs in the specifications. You'll also need RCA leads and power wiring for the amplifier.
USB lets you connect a phone or play media from a USB drive.
The unit supports a microphone for hands-free calls and voice commands.

It's a plug-and-play replacement for the factory display. Make sure your car has CIC first: the iDrive controller has 7 buttons and no touchpad, and there's a 4 pin LVDS port at the rear of the unit. Cars with CCC need QXB2260CC, and cars with no original display need QPB1090UN_L.
